Please note, below are spoilers from Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.

Naruto fans are wondering what happened to the main characters of the series, whose fates are uncertain after the finale of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and the first chapters of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. Both of them were tragically sidelined to make way for new characters who are now leading the way in the world created by Masashi Kishimoto. But what exactly happened to Naruto and Sasuke in Boruto?

Did Naruto die in Boruto?

Let's start with Naruto Uzumaki. What happened to the Seventh Hokage? After he took Kawaki into his family, becoming like a father to him, he found himself in a difficult position between his conflicted sons. Kawaki wants to protect Naruto at all costs, while Boruto, whose body can be taken over by Momoshiki, is a threat to his father, or at least he is regarded as such by Kawaki, who believes Naruto could be harmed in conflict with Otsutsuki. As such, Kawaki has already tried to kill Bourto, but when he failed, he found another solution to protect Naruto.

During their last conversation, when the foster son told Naruto that he would eliminate all Otsutsuki, including Boruto, to which Uzumaki refused to agree, Kawaki, with the help of Daikokuten, sent Naruto as well as Hinata to another dimension so that they would not get in his way and also nothing would happen to them. Now they are stuck suspended in time, unable to think, and not needing air or food. So Naruto is alive, but he is currently absent and is suspended in time until Kawaki decides to let him out of this dimension, which for now is not going to happen.

Did Sasuke die in Boruto?

What about Sasuke in Boruto? Also, the other main character in Naruto and Naruto Shippuden is having a hard time. After Naruto was transferred to another dimension and the Omnipotence changed everyone's memories, causing Boruto and Kawaki's stories to be swapped and the world believes that it was Boruto who did something to Naruto and Kawaki is the son of the Seventh Hokage, Sasuke left the village again for several years. He did so for Sarada's sake, one of the few on whom, unlike Sasuke, the Omnipotence didn’t work. The daughter asked Uchiha to protect Boruto and help him when he was forced to flee because of a crime he was not guilty of. Due to the fact that Sasuke escaped together with Boruto, he was also considered a criminal.

Sasuke, although he initially found it difficult to trust Boruto, through his altered memories, as shown in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, over time he began to become more and more convinced of the young Uzumaki and trust him, noticing that he was very similar to Naruto. As he promised his daughter, he helped Boruto by training him, as well as protecting him, for which he paid a high price. In a year he managed to teach Boruto everything he could, and when it came to facing Code and his Claw Grimes, he sacrificed himself. He stopped the creatures so Uzumaki could escape, however, during the skirmish he was bitten by one of the beasts and turned into a tree, which sucked out all his chakra and created Hidari. Hidari is a copy of Sasuke, an evolved, self-aware God Tree created by Ten-Tails.

Boruto promised to save Sasuke, so it looks like despite being trapped in a tree, Uchiha is still alive, but like Naruto, he’s out of commission too.
