First Reviews: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart - Sony's Top-notch Exclusive

The first reviews of Ratchet &; Clank: Rift Apart have already appeared online. Another PlayStation 5 exclusive can be called a success for Sony - review scores reach the top of the scale, and there are extremely few issues.

The release of the next installment in the Ratchet & Clank series, titled Rift Apart is fast approaching, and today the critics' opinions were published on various gaming websites. If you've been holding before buying game, this is the last stretch to help you decide. Judging from the reviews, it looks like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is another success for Insomniac Games and Sony..

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart - selected review scores:

  • IGN - 9/10
  • Metro GameCentral - 7/10
  • East Allies - 8.5/10

  • GameSpot - 9/10
  • Game Revolution - 9/10
  • TheSixthAxis - 9/10
  • GamesRadar - 100/100
  • We Got This Covered - 100/100

  • Telegraph - 80/100
  • PlayStation Universe - 75/100
  • Gamer.no - 70/100
  • Gfinity - 70/100

Average rating on Metacritic is 88/100. Although the reviews are on an even level and stick to the top of the scale, we can notice some lower, but not necessarily bad notes. None of the critics rated the game below a seven, also no less than seventy points out of a hundred appeared. This only proves the high quality of Insomniac Games' title.

Among the written reviews, virtually all describe the delight with beautiful visuals, and some reviewers were even tempted to say that the new Ratchet & Clank is one of the best looking games in recent years or, more to the point, that they have ever had the opportunity to play. The title also sounds great - the music harmonizes with the visual aspects of the environment, pleases the ear, and is worth remembering. Also the gameplay was described in superlatives, including such words as: 'the best action platform gameplay of the entire series' or 'exciting combat and great battles do not let you get bored'. The plot is not inferior to the previous installments. Colorful new characters entertain and make the experience more interesting with each new cut-scene, the adult and skillful approach to more serious topics, such as mental health problems, is a welcome surprise. Technically, the game took full advantage of the PlayStation 5's capabilities, from the smooth and seamless gameplay to the good use of the DualSense controller's features.

Where, on the other hand, lie its shortcomings? Complaints mainly hint at the length of the campaign, although it is not the shortest one in the series. It is rather average - especially considering the side content, which extends the game time to just over 15 hours. Another problem are the boring and repetitive optional tasks and with them the lack of specific ideas for innovative gameplay. The difficulty level is also badly affected - the standard level enables us to get through the game without a challenge, and we die mostly by accident.

Despite everything, the game was received very well, and despite the above flaws or the occasional errors in the reviewed version, critics could smilingly shake hands with Sony's representatives and congratulate a great 9th-gen exclusive title.
