Man Arrested for Attempting to Attack Creators of Genshin Impact

A few days ago, a man armed with a knife broke into the headquarters of the Chinese company miHoYo - devs of Genshin Impact, among other titles. According to media reports, his aim was to murder the studio's founders, and the motive was the changes introduced recently in one of the developer's productions.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. A man armed with a knife broke into the headquarters of the creators of Genshin Impact and reportedly tried to murder the studio's founders;
  2. No one was hurt, and the would-be perpetrator was caught by the police;
  3. The case probably has something to do with the recent changes made to the developer's previous game, Honkai Impact 3rd.

As GameSpot reports, Chinese studio miHoYo - responsible for the megahit Genshin Impact - was recently the target of an attack. On April 24th, an assailant armed with a knife broke into the company's headquarters, most likely in an attempt to murder the founders. Fortunately, the attempt was unsuccessful and no one was hurt; the man was apprehended by Shanghai police.

According to GameSpot's editors, the man's motives were linked to changes that recently took place in Honkai Impact 3rd (a game from the same developer, released before Genshin Impact). Recently, miHoYo stirred up controversy in its home country by adding rabbit costumes to this title, which some people felt were inappropriate, and were unavailable on the Chinese market. In response to community's dissatisfaction, the developers removed the items from the game. The matter was addressed in an official message.

It's unclear whether the would-be assailant was annoyed by the appearance of bunny costumes in Honkai Impact 3rd or perhaps their removal. If anything, it's hard to imagine that something so trivial could be the reason for such dramatic steps... but stranger things have happened in the world before.
