Ryse 2 May be in the Works, but as a Multi-platform Game

According to the latest rumors, Crytek may be working on a sequel to 2013's Ryse: Son of Rome. This time, however, it will not be a title exclusive to a single platform.

Rumors have surfaced suggesting that a sequel to Ryse: Son of Rome, Crytek's 2013 action game set in ancient Rome, may be in development.

The source of these speculations is Nick Baker (better known by his nickname Shpeshal_Ed), i.e. the co-founder of the XboxEra website, who has quite a reputation when it comes to Microsoft-related projects. He revealed the Ryse 2 rumor during a recent podcast. Last year, he was allegedly contacted by an insider who convinced him that he had ties to Crytek. At the time, that insider was concerned that his source would be discovered after sharing information about the project, so he was pretty tight-lipped when it came to sharing details, but this month he renewed contact with Baker and announced that a sequel to Ryse: Son of Rome was in the works.

Shpeshal_Ed obtained graphic materials from his source to confirm the existence of such project. What's interesting, however, according to this information Ryse 2 is supposed to be a multi-platform game, or at least that was Crytek's plan last year. Of course, until the official announcement of the game, all such reports should be approached with caution.

Recall that Ryse: Son of Rome debuted in 2013. Initially, the game was released only on Xbox One, and the publisher was Microsoft. A year later we lived to see a PC port, but it was released by Deep Silver. Crytek owns all the rights to the brand, so nothing stands in the way of the continuation being a multi-platform project.

It is worth mentioning that in 2014 Kotaku reported that the studio was working on Ryse 2, but the project was abandoned due to Crytek's financial problems and the team's conflict with Microsoft over who would own the rights to the brand.
