Could GTA 4 be the next Rockstar remaster? According to a well-known insider, it might be happening sooner than we think.
There’s a new Grand Theft Auto rumor going around, and for once, it’s not about GTA 6. Instead, it’s turning attention to one of the most underrated entries in the series, GTA 4. We might be getting PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S ports pretty soon. And that’s not all of it – Max Payne 3 could be coming too.
The rumor comes from none other than Tez2, a familiar name in the Rockstar Games community, known for digging up all kinds of behind-the-scenes info. Ben, aka @videotechuk_, shared Tez2’s forum post over on X to spread the word.
Tez2 says the GTA 4 port has been in the works for about a year and could even release by the end of 2025. He also suggests that might be why Rockstar went after modders, claiming those projects could’ve clashed with the company’s own plans.
Ben believes Rockstar’s next remaster should drop this year, keeping in line with Take-Two Interactive’s release strategy in recent years. He also points out that one of GTA 6’s protagonists, Lucia, was born in Liberty City, the same setting as Grand Theft Auto 4. So, it’d be the perfect time to get players interested in GTA 4.
While most people assume the game will get an upgrade for the latest consoles, some think it could make its debut on PS4 and Switch.
What’s more, Tez2 says Rockstar’s plan was to drop a Max Payne 3 remake not long after the GTA 4 port goes live. That would line up pretty well with the already announced remakes of the first two games, and according to him, a full trilogy release isn’t off the table either. Pretty interesting. At this point, who knows? After all, it's still just a rumor.

Been with gamepressure.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or admiring my collection of retro consoles.
