Open-world RPG Honor of Kings: World Announced

Honor of Kings: World, an open-world action RPG and a spin-off to the popular MOBA game, has been announced. The first trailer looks impressive.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. MOBA game Honor of Kings will receive a spin-off titled Honor of Kings: World;
  2. It will be an open-world RPG and arcade combat;
  3. Neither the hardware platforms nor the planned release date have been announced;
  4. The work involves Liu Cixin, the writer known for The Three Body Problem.

Mobile MOBA Honor of Kings (known as Arena of Valor in Europe) is currently one of the highest earning and most popular games on the market. However, the game is a phenomenon mainly in Asia, and remains relatively unknown in the West. Nevertheless, we will soon have the opportunity to get to know this brand from a new side. Tencent has announced an RPG titled Honor of Kings: World.

The game will offer an open world. From the released trailer it seems that it will be an action RPG with a strongly arcade combat system. The player has to control a single character, supported in battle by companions. The trailer looks promising. You can see that it's a high-budget production and the combat system looks interesting.

Honor of Kings: World will tell the story of a young warrior who goes to an academy located in the land of Jixia, which specializes in training heroes. Before he is accepted to the academy, however, he has to pass a demanding exam.

Information about the project is scarce at the moment. We do not know the planned release date. The game will come to many hardware platforms, but they were not specified. It was emphasized that the production will be directed to players around the world, in contrast to the MOBA original, which is successful mainly in Asia.

Honor of Kings: World is being developed by the Chinese studio TiMi, the team which also developed Honor of Kings, Call of Duty Mobile and Pokemon Unite. It is interesting that Liu Cixin, the Chinese writer known for The Three Body Problem, one of the most awarded science-fiction novels of recent years, is involved in the work. He will make sure that the game offers a unique perspective on Chinese culture.
