The First Descendant is a new free to play shooter. It is quite a big hit among players, with more than 220 000 players on Steam at the moment of writing this article. With so many people around, you may want to pick your best name to show potential companions. However, the game does not make it easy. The option to change it is quite hidden and inconvenient.

How to Change Name in The First Descendant

Many players like to customize their experience, especially in multiplayer titles. The situation is similar in the case of The First Descendant. So, numerous people are quite surprised that the game takes automatically your Steam account nickname as your player’s name. So, how to change it? You may do not like the answer.

It seems that for now, the only way to change your in-game name is to change your Steam account nickname. Below we present how to do it:

  1. Go to your profile.
  2. Pick edit profile on the right.
  3. Now, change Profile name.

However, sadly, it is not enough. There is one more step. The First Descendant does not use your new Steam name automatically. You have to reset your TFD account for the game to see a change. You will lose your progress and, what may be even more important in some cases, purchases. Because of that, we recommend changing your name only for fresh accounts. At least until the developers introduce another way to do that or we will find a working alternative. If you want to do that regardless, go to options and pick the Account tab. There you will find the Account Reset.
