Scum is finally available in 1.0 version. Changes introduced with the update may be confusing. So, let’s talk about “missing” single player mode.
Survival is a specific genre, as it is one of the most popular, if not the most popular, type of games to use early access. However, many productions are stuck in this state for long years. The perfect example is Project Zomboid, which is available in EA since 2013. However, some games eventually receive version 1.0. It happened to Scum yesterday. Unfortunately, one change introduced in the update may be confusing. So, what happened with single player mode? Let’s answer this question.
Scum is focused on multiplayer and survival aspects. Of course, not everyone is interested in company (or they just want to learn the mechanics). Developers prepared the single player mode for them. So, you can avoid other people and try to survive on your own.
However, after 1.0 release, some players may be confused. At first glance, the well-known single player mode seems unavailable. However, you don’t have to panic. For some reason, the name of this mode has been changed. Now it’s called Sandbox. To play alone you must simply click in the differently named button on the main menu.
Scum 1.0 introduced many novelties. You can find the full patch notes in the post on Steam. However, let’s name here a few important. By far the most interesting of them is the island rework. Developers decided to modify POIs and environment. Additionally, you will encounter a new type of NPC roaming the map. That is not all, now players can modify quests on their own servers or in single player games. So, it’s a great time to go back to this game and check all these changes.
Of course, version 1.0 isn’t the end. Developers have plans for the rest of 2025. As we can see on the roadmap featured Steam, in Q3 new quests and diseases are to be added to the game. There will also be a rework of armor. At the end of the year, we will see some additional weapons and items too. So, players have something to look forward to. Let’s hope that there will be no delays in the release of new content.
