Gary Oldman is as curious as Harry Potter fans about the upcoming TV series, but at the same time he has bad news for people who were hoping for the return of someone from the cast of the films.
Work is underway on a new adaptation of the Harry Potter series. Now, instead of the movies, a TV series is to be made, featuring a completely new cast. In turn, the adaptation is expected to be more faithful than the movies, which will certainly be made easier by the fact that an entire season will be devoted to one novel, which will cover more hours than one film.
Gary Oldman, whom Harry Potter fans may know as Sirius Black, is looking forward to the TV show as much as fans of the series. During an interview with Variety, he mentioned that he's curious to see what HBO Max will prepare, as they will be able to show more in the TV series than in the movies.
I'm actually very intrigued to see it because so much of the books were cut.
Unfortunately, if anyone was hoping to see Oldman in some new role in the series, or anyone from the movie cast, the actor doesn’t have good news for them – he believes that the creators of the Harry Potter TV series will not bring back anyone from the old cast.
My personal feeling is they're not going to go anywhere near people that were connected to the original.
Gary Oldman himself has expressed a desire to play Dumbledore, but knows that nothing will come of it. And in fact, when you look at the subsequent cast announcements, it's clear that they're not going to call back anyone who has starred in the Harry Potter films. Even the popular fancast of Tom Felton as the new Lucius Malfoy didn't happen. As already announced, Draco's father will be played by Johnny Flynn.
