The commander of the British army predicts that in 2030 every fourth soldier may not be human. While presenting in an interview a vision of the future of the armed forces, he suggested that up to 30,000 robots could be „drafted” within the next 10 years.
General Sir Nicholas Carter (commander of the British army) gave an interview to Sky News in which he shared his vision of the future of the British army. Apart from standard topics such as finances or the risk of armed conflict, there was also a certain curiosity - robots.
The pace of planned robotization may seem impressive. Although it is a general vision of development and the general underlines that no decisions have been made yet, in 10 years' time the British army may have 120 thousand soldiers, out of which 30 thousand may be robots. Will this be achieved? General Carter remains cautious and stresses that what matters are the results, not the numbers alone.
It's not just in Britain that the army is being "mechanized" in this unique sense. In September we mentioned American Vision 60 robo-dogs used for reconnaissance and mapping.
