Meryl Streep is one of the greatest contemporary stars and a cinema legend. In her impressive career, she has collaborated with top actors and directors. However, working with Clint Eastwood on the set of the 1995 American romantic drama The Bridges of Madison County was a unique experience for her – one she will never forget and that inspired one of her other performances.

In a 2023 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Meryl Streep revealed that Clint Eastwood’s way of working inspired her improvisation in The Devil Wears Prada, specifically that she whispered her lines, which shocked the other stars on set. Apparently, this is exactly how Eastwood works on set – without raising his voice.

In an earlier interview, Meryl Streep noted that Clint Eastwood, as a director, is very subtle and allows actors to feel comfortable even while directing them. However, in the Entertainment Weekly conversation, the actress admitted that on the set of The Bridges of Madison County, he made an exception and it frightened everyone present.

It was a direct steal from the way I saw Clint Eastwood run a set. He's someone that guys really respect, and he never raises his voice, ever; the one time that he did, it so terrified people for two weeks, they were traumatized.

The Bridges of Madison County is a film based on the 1992 bestselling novel of the same name by Robert James Waller. It was produced, directed by, and starred Clint Eastwood. The story follows photographer Robert Kincaid, who wanders into the life of housewife Francesca Johnson for four days in the 1960s.

This film is highly rated; on Rotten Tomatoes, it has 90% positive reviews from critics and 87% from users. You can watch The Bridges of Madison County on several digital platforms, including Amazon Video.
