Update

Insomniac Games announced on Twitter that the release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will lack a New Game Plus mode and the option to repeat missions. However, we won't have to wait long for these attractions. The update that will introduce them to the game should be released before the end of 2023.

Original news (October 18)

We are just two days away from the release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 - one of the most anticipated games of this year. Insomniac Games claims that at the time of its debut, the boxed version of their latest work will be fully playable without the requirement of network access.

Nonetheless, the developers have announced that a day one patch, numbered 1.001.002, will be waiting for Spidey fans. Interestingly, its installation will not be a requirement, but to improve the gaming experience anyone willing to play should definitely download it.

From the information contained in the official announcement we learn that the patch will introduce several fixes to the initial phase of the game and new accessibility options.

Insomniac Games also added that those who decided to pre-order the digital version of the game will receive the updated title from the beginning.

"The disc contains the entire game and is playable from start to finish, with no patch or online requiremens. But for the best experience, we highly encourage physical/disc-based players to download update Version 1.001.002 on the day of release - prior to experiencing the opening mission of the game for the first time. This update features polish for the gold master version of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 available on disc, which improves the opening sections of the game and includes other general refinements to your Spidey experience, including some additional accessibility options," reads Insomniac Games' post on X/Twitter.

Instant fast travel

At a time when many launches are proving almost unplayable at first, the news that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will have no such problems, fills us with great optimism. All the more so because Insomniac Games' latest game will use a number of solutions that could have caused major technical difficulties. Perhaps the most obvious example is the fast travel mode, which enables us to move to even the remotest corner of the map without any loading screen..

Some players suggested that the loading screen was cleverly hidden under the action of confirming fast travel by pressing the "X" button for a long time. However, this suspicion was very quickly debunked by the developers, who explained that they wanted to drop this solution to prove to players that it was no cheat, but concluded that players would find the fast travel confirmation window useful.

Also worthy of admiration are the changes that virtual New York has undergone since the first Marvel's Spider-Man. This includes the addition of two new districts: Queens and Brooklyn. Below you'll find a comparison of the dummy Queens from the first game and the meticulously modeled version from the sequel:

Disappearing Buildings...

However, in the game we will not see one of the symbols of New York - the Chrysler building (confirmation of this fact can be found, for example. in our review). As it turns out, Insomniac Games did not come to an agreement with the owners of the building, as a result of which it could not put it in the game. For some players this may be an insignificant detail, but for others it will be an element that will spoil the overall enjoyment of web-slinging across the Big Apple. To sweeten the deal, the developers of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 have certainly hidden a number of interesting easter eggs in their game, which the biggest fans of Marvel's comic book universe will recognize.

Finally, we also include footage comparing the different graphics modes in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Recall that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will debut on October 20 on the PlayStation 5 console.
