Electronic Arts is not eager to make a new installment of the Command & Conquer series. Fortunately, fans do not have to rely on this publisher and are developing numerous unofficial projects themselves. One of the best is The Dawn of the Tiberium Age, a freeware RTS built on an improved version of the engine from Command & Conquer: Red Alert, which combines factions from the Tiberium and Red Alert universes in one game. The production just got a new version (numbered 13) and it's the most extensive patch for quite some time.

The biggest highlight of the update is a brand-new, nine-mission-long single-player story campaign titled Power to the People. In it, the player takes command of a small group of African anarchists whose goal is to drive GDI and NOD forces from their homeland.

Version 13 of the game introduced several other changes.

  1. New side command bar was added, modeled after the one in Red Alert 2.
  2. In addition, a set of new multiplayer maps was also introduced this time they were designed mainly for 1v1 skirmishes.
  3. There are also numerous bug and gameplay fixes.

The Dawn of the Tiberium Age is a completely standalone game and does not require the possession of any official installments of the series. This is possible because long ago Electronic Arts made trimmed versions of the first few installments of the series available for free. The project offers a large set of new story campaigns, standalone missions, and multiplayer maps. In addition, the authors have improved the gameplay balance in many aspects, as well as restored online multiplayer.

The first version of The Dawn of the Tiberium Age was released seventeen years ago, but the game has been under intense development all the time. A few months ago it received a major update with the 30-mission-long new Covert Revolt campaign. A new system of cut scenes was developed for it, and Power to the People is also making use of it.
