New He-Man Will be Aimed at Adults; New Trailer Available

Masters of the Universe: Revelation will premiere on July 23 on Netflix. It is a follow-up to the once popular animated series from the 80's. The action once again takes us to the planet Eternia, where a new threat arises before He-Man and his allies.

Netflix has released another trailer for the upcoming show Masters of the Universe: Revelation. The trailer has become very popular and in a few days it received almost 3 million views. At the same time we can watch the trailer with Kevin Smith's commentary, who is the showrunner of the series. We can learn from it that the newest incarnation of He-Man will also be directed to adult audience. It means that the creators were not afraid of blood and brutal scenes:

"[This show] is your childhood, exactly as you remember it. The difference is that you're now old enough to deal with death on screen. Our show is created as a continuation of the classic series, but in our version the characters can stab each other. What is also new is how many people die."

It can be concluded that the series is partly aimed at viewers who watched Prince Adam as a child or adolescent. Kevin Smith notes, however, that the series will be family-friendly:

"One of my main ideas in creating the series was to create characters that would appeal to both older and younger generations. The audience that grew up watching He-Man is now in their 40s. However, their children who are likely to watch the series should also be considered."

Masters of the Universe: Revelation will be a follow up to the original series from over 30 years ago, minus the 2002 reboot. According to residual reports, the plot is to be centered around a sword that enables the Prince of Eternia to transform into He-Man. The magical weapon went missing and the world is plunged into chaos. Teela, a member of the Royal Guard, and Prince Adam face the daunting task of finding new allies and protecting the planet.

Kevin Smith, known for creating such films as Clerks or Chasing Amy, announced the true cream of the crop of voice actors. He proudly announced that Skeletor, He-Man's main enemy, will be played by Mark Hamil whe played the iconic role of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars and provided voice to Joker in Batman: The Animated Series. Moreover, we will hear Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones), Kevin Conroy (Batman from Batman: The Animated Series) and Alan Oppenheimer, who provided the voice for Skeletor in the classic version of the show. Teela is played by Sarah Michelle Gellar (known from Buffy: Fear of the Vampires).

Netflix scheduled the premiere of the series for July 23. That's when we will be able to watch the first five episodes of Masters of the Universe. It is known that the series is to be released in two parts, but so far there is no confirmed information as to the next premiere date. Interestingly, fans will also have the opportunity to purchase a comic book prequel, which will appear on July 7 in the United States.
