Overwatch is worth over $1 billion

Activision Blizzard revealed their most recent financial results, in which they brag about Overwatch becoming the company's another billion-dollar franchise.

Activision-Blizzard has noted $1.7 billion of total net revenue within the three months ending March 31, the company announced in their financial results for the first quarter of 2017. This is a significant rise from the $1.4 billion on the year-over-year basis. Interestingly, over $1.2 billion of that amount comes just from selling World of Warcraft subscriptions, licensing, DLCs, and microtransactions.

Another noteworthy thing is that the publisher can brag 431 million monthly active users, 41 million of which belongs to Blizzard (Activision had 48 million users and the mobile-focused King 342 million), which is a record for the company. Overwatch alone has reached over 30 million players and has become the eight billion-dollar franchise in Activision Blizzard’s portfolio.

The publisher has big plans for the future, seeing much potential in the upcoming Call of Duty: WWII, launching on November 3, 2017. The game’s reveal last week was the most watched livestream in the series’ history and the pre-orders are off to a very good start. Another strong card up Activision’s sleeve is Destiny 2, due out on September 8, 2017. View the entire report for more details on Activision Blizzard’s recent activities and plans.
