Yesbox studio updated the demo of the promising city builder Metropolis 1998. The developers also revealed the game's development plans.
We definitely cannot complain about the lack of new city builders lately. One of the most interesting upcoming games of this type is Metropolis 1998.
The game focuses on an isometric, pixel art visual style in an attempt to capture the essence of classics like SimCity 2000 and SimCity 3000, while also incorporating a modern city and citizen simulation that far surpasses the level of complexity achievable in this genre in the 1990s.
We are reminding you about this project because the game's demo, which has been available on Steam for many months, recently received a significant update introducing many new features. Among them, the most important ones are:
The game is exclusively heading to PC and will soon be released in early access. This version will resemble a demo, offering more extensive content, but similar features.
We recently learned about the devs' plans for the release of version 1.0. The complete edition is expected to include, among other features, a weather system and dynamic seasons. Taxes will be implemented and the possibility to choose from several difficulty levels. The game will also simulate problems related to noise and environmental pollution.
After the version 1.0 premiere, there are additional special events planned, including bank heists, police pursuits of criminals, and other urban criminal activities. Multiplayer and alternative game modes will be included, such as a feature inspired by The Sims series, where players will control a single character and a zombie mode where law enforcement will confront infected residents.
