Original post (July 26, 2023)

The first reviews of The Expanse: A Telltale Series, a narrative adventure game set in the universe of the popular novel series and TV series, have appeared online. Here they are:

  1. Video Gamer - 8/10
  2. PCGamesN - 8/10
  3. GameSpew - 8/10
  4. Pure Xbox - 8/10
  5. GGRecon - 3/5

There are too few reviews so far for websites like Metacritic or OpenCritic to set a reliable average, but looking at the first texts, the game lives up to expectations. Editors praise the interesting story and exploration, as well as the execution, and the whole thing is expected to be a successful return of Telltale.

The Expanse: A Telltale Series is an episodic game. The first episode will be released on July 27, which is tomorrow. The next five episodes will appear at two-week intervals. The game will be available on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.

It is worth mentioning that reviewers were given access to the first three episodes. Below we quote excerpts from the reviews.

GameSpew

"If you are a fan of The Expanse, then you will undoubtedly get more out of this game. But don't write it off if you've never dealt with this universe before - this prequel does a great job of introducing new players to the universe. (...) Sure, we still have two episodes to go, but we've seen enough to know that Telltale's return is strong."

Video Gamer

"Telltale and The Expanse seem like an obvious combination. We can rediscover a world full of conflict, characters and violence from the perspective of Camina Drummer. The carefully crafted narrative covers the limited gameplay and is totally worth the few hours it takes to sink into this game."

PCGamesN

"The Expanse captures that special space serenity that makes quality science fiction games what they are. Watching the end credits, I felt like booting up Mass Effect, which is a huge compliment to what Telltale has done. I can't imagine a better way to wait for Episode 4."
