Job Offers Suggest The Sims 5 May Focus on Multiplayer

EA is looking for employees to join the team developing The Sims series. From the offers posted on Maxis' website, it appears that these people would be working on a multiplayer mode.

In a nutshell:

  1. Three new job advertisements appeared on Maxis' website, which indicate that The Sims 5 will feature a multiplayer mode focused on competition between players;
  2. The new employee will be responsible for developing tools to prevent cheating.

Although The Sims 5 is yet to be officially announced, rumors about the title have been appearing for a long time. Now, due to job advertisements on Maxis' official website, it has been speculated that the newest installment of the popular series will have a multiplayer mode focused on competition between players.

As SimsCommunity reports, job offers for EA Redwood, EA Austin and EA Canada have appeared on Maxis' website. All three concern the position of Backend Software Enginner. As we can read in the offers, the tasks of new employees will include the development of technologies that "expand the possibilities of gameplay in The Sims".

Specifically, it's about helping to create an extensive network service that can "support millions of players". Additionally, the person who gets the job will also work on data security and tools to prevent cheats.

It's worth remembering that Maxis has already tried online gaming in its flagship series. In the years 2002-2008 there was an MMO game titled The Sims Online. However, it did not enjoy great popularity and the project was abandoned. Looking at the aforementioned job advertisements, one can suspect that EA is trying to return to the idea. At this point, however, it's hard to say whether it will be a part of the main instalment of the series or a spin-off.
