With a new modification for The Witcher 3, Geralt will have to deal with long-term symptoms of the coronavirus. The work was created for a worthy cause.
Although the worst of the coronavirus pandemic is behind us, that doesn't mean COVID-19 is gone. In addition to the many new variants of the disease, the big challenge for scientists is to understand the long-term consequences of the infection - the so-called "long COVID". To help raise public awareness that such a case affects a huge population, one modder has "infected" Geralt of Rivia.
The developer, nicknamed Stellar7Project, developed a mod for The Witcher 3, which makes the main character of the game exhibit symptoms of the disease. In a nutshell, Long COVID Mode - as this is the name of the mod - results in the fact that the previously robust Geralt will begin to have problems even with simple activities - just like people suffering from Long COVID.
"Long COVID Mode is a mod created to shed light on how more than 65 million long COVID patients around the world face a whole new level of difficulty in life. Based on data from the NGO Long COVID Europe this mod turns the real-life symptoms of long COVID into in-game effects," reads the developer's announcement.
With the modification, treating the symptoms of a long COVID is extremely difficult. The developer notes that the best potion for regeneration is Tawny Owl. Swallow works half-heartedly, as while it heals him, but at the same time increases the degree of exertion. Food and water also help the hero, but until the aforementioned indigestion occurs. Rest also proves helpful in the early stages of the disease.
It is worth noting that the mod works only with The Witcher 3 version 1.31 or 1.32 and the GOTY edition. So far Long COVID Mode does not support "next-gen" Wild Hunt.
