Delta Force Mobile was launched yesterday. So, you can grab your smartphone and play with your friends on PC… right? Unfortunately, I have bad news.
At the end of 2024, after 15 long years, Delta Force series returned with a new instalment. This free-to-play “Battlefield's competitor” was released on PC first. It attracted thousands of people there and it still gathers around 100,000 players in daily peaks (via SteamDB). While some players were furious about the campaign and the fact that it was almost impossible to finish it solo, it seems that developers regain fans’ trust step by step by adding new content (like K437 assault rifle) and bringing the game on other platforms. Yesterday, DF was launched on mobile devices (sadly without controller support). So, does this FPS now offer a crossplay mode? Unfortunately, the situation is complicated.
Right now, Delta Force offers only cross-progression between mobile and PC versions. So, you can switch platforms and keep progress (if you wonder how to do that, developers have prepared a guide). However, crossplay between PC players and Android / iOS users is not supported right now. Will this change in the future? Hard to tell. Back in 2023 in the FAQ, developers announced that mobile gamers will have the choice to enable crossplay with PC.
Yes. For cross-progression, PC and mobile users' data will be shared, but matchmaking will be separated.
For cross-play, we will allow mobile users to choose whether or not to match with PC players based on their preferences, and they can team up with friends on different platforms.
However, we still don’t have confirmation that these plans are up to date. On the contrary, moderators on the official Discord server are stating that this idea was abandoned and we should not hope for the crossplay at all. The Mobile Closed Beta in February didn’t offer cross-platform features, either. On the other hand, the wording of the statement suggests that the information applies only to that exact test. But that's my interpretation, not a confirmation from the developers. So, right now you can’t team up with friends from PC and it is hard to say if you ever will be able to do that. All we can do is to wait for the future official announcements.
