Xbox Series X no Worse Than PS5; Has its Own Sound Chipset

Like the PS5, it looks like the Xbox Series X will have a dedicated chip to handle surround sound. The hardware will most likely use Microsoft's proprietary audio ray tracing technology.

The PS5 doesn't have to be the only one with surround sound.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Like the PS5, the Xbox Series X will have a dedicated audio chip;
  2. The device will most likely use the sound ray tracing technology;
  3. Some of the features of the next-gen console GPUs will be device-specific.

Contrary to the information that appeared online after the release of PlayStation 5 specs, Microsoft's competitor, Xbox Series X, will also have a dedicated audio chip. This was confirmed on Twitter by James Stanard, a graphic designer working for the Redmond giant.

Information about the sound chipset also appears in the text published on the official Xbox website. From the details contained there, it can be concluded that the device will use the sound ray tracing technology developed by Microsoft.

"From improved lighting, shadows and reflections as well as more realistic acoustics and spatial audio, raytracing enables developers to create more physically accurate worlds. For the very first time in a game console, Xbox Series X includes support for high performance, hardware accelerated raytracing," reads the message.

Coming back to James Stanard for a moment, he also noted that the GPUs found in the PS5 and the new Xbox are not expected to have exactly the same features. Some of them will be exclusive for a given console - this includes modern texture streaming technology, which enables us to significantly reduce the amount of data that is being transferred.
