What We Want From The Witcher 4. Our Expectations From CDPR's New Game

The Witcher 4 has been announced! Will it be the best? We don't know. What will it even be about? We have no idea either. But we do know what we'd like it to be in certain respects. Here's our wish list.

Table of Contents

Cyberpunk 2077 on new generation consoles finally works and looks like it should, the buzz around it on the Internet has already subsided a bit, so CDPR decided to remind the community that it's primarily the "Witcher team." What we had expected for a long time has been officially confirmed – work is underway in some shape on the next installment of the series set in the universe created by Andrzej Sapkowski.

So far, we've just seen a teaser with a mysterious logo. It's indeed a more than "beep," but still not much. It's a lot like what Bethesda did with its laconic teaser of the sixth part of The Elder Scrolls, but the picture was so significant that it again generated a lot of discussion among fans of the franchise: "What will it be like, what will it be about, who will be there?"

It's probably no surprise that such discussions also took place in our office, and in addition to guessing and speculating, we also expressed our own expectations for The Witcher 4, or maybe just The Witcher. It's been a long time since the release of Wild Hunt, and while the conclusion of the trilogy is still viewed as one of the best productions in history, there have been a few other gems in the open-world RPG genre released since. CDPR also needs to rebuild good image, preferably with another outstanding title. So, what do we expect from the game, in order for The Witcher 4 to really be the best?

What are your own expectations? Let us know in the comments!

Stable condition at release

Let's hope CDPR has learned the lessons after their last, botched release (and that there's no pandemic in place a year before the release date). However, limited trust is perfectly understandable for the time being. The card "The PC version is ok, the rest will be mended in time" has been played one time too many, we think. Because it's not just about the terrible condition of Cyberpunk 2077 on the day of the release, especially on consoles. We remember that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt also left a lot to be desired on PlayStation 4. And it was for this poor technical condition that it received most of the backlash right after the release.

This time, there's hope in the information that CDPR will be developing the new Witcher using Unreal Engine 5, rather than its proprietary REDengine. The UE5 not only looks dazzling on all the tech demos we've seen – it's also considered a very versatile and advanced engine, plus (or perhaps most of all) it comes with a deal of 15 years of support from Epic Games. That means the talent at CDPRed will be able to focus more on the game itself, rather than optimization for consoles, for example.
