Metro Exodus Performance Tests and Graphics Comparison

The first Metro Exodus performance tests appeared on the web. The game seems to have been optimized well, even with ray-tracking on. In addition, a video with graphical comparison of the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions has been released.

The game will be released tomorrow.

In recent weeks, players waiting for the PC version of Metro Exodus have been busy mainly with the scandal of making the production available in the Epic Game Store instead of Steam. It should be remembered, however, that the project should be one of the prettiest titles of the year, mainly thanks to ray-tracking support. Therefore, it is worth noting the extensive performance tests published by TechPowerUp.

A PC with Intel Core i7-8700K 4.8 GHz processor and 16 GB of DDR4 RAM was used for the tests.

Taking into account the quality of the offered graphics, Metro Exodus seems to be optimized well. The best Nvidia card, the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti with 11GB of memory, is capable of generating an average of 71 frames per second in Ultra @4K resolution.

After downscaling to 1920x1080, the GeForce 1060 3 GB is more than capable of running the game comfortably, @52 frames per second on average. This GPU is currently the most popular card among PC players, at least according to Steam's hardware surveys.

Enabling ray-tracking is obviously associated with big performance drops, but even then it is not unbearable. GeForce RTX 2060 owners will be able to enjoy this technology confidently. The card provides about 50 frames per second in 1080p for Ultra, i.e. 40 FPS less than without ray-tracking.

In 4K with ray-tracing enabled, the GeForce RTX 2060 we will yield only 16 frames per second on Ultra, but nobody reasonable will expect this card to produce anything better.

Alternative tests were prepared by Candyland, who published a video analyzing the performance of ray-tracking and DLSS techniques in the game.

Graphical comparison - PC, PS4 and Xbox One

It is also worth noting another interesting video material published by Candyland. It offers a graphical comparison between PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions.

The PC release of course wins this competition. Not only does it offer standard advantages such as better textures, higher levels of detail of distant objects or a sharper image, but it also employs ray-tracing and Nvidia Hairworks to make elements such as hair, beard and fur look a lot more realistically. Generally, however, Metro Exodus looks very attractive on all three hardware platforms.

Metro Exodus is heading for PCs and Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The game will be released on 15 February 2019, simultaneously on all three hardware platforms. The first reviews are very positive.
