Warning – hate zone! We take a look at which game characters are the ones most hated by gamers.

Mud – Gothic

Mud?

Mud's behavior in Gothic is somewhat reminiscent of the donkey from the Shrek series, but his lot is much more tragic. He is a former digger from the Old Camp, who we can meet at the beginning of the game. He has been repeatedly beaten, ridiculed, humiliated, and mistreated even by his parents, so it is no wonder that he is lonely and wants to make friends at all costs – with us, the Nameless Hero.

With such a past, it also doesn't seem surprising that Mud is somewhat socially impaired. We immediately notice that he is annoying and intrusive. Instead of helping – he hinders. He talks a lot, even too much, and asks questions that he answers himself or changes the subject. He doesn't support the hero in battle, but can often get him into trouble. He is just a real pain in the ass, who constantly accostes the player, but we can't deny that the tragedy of this character is striking.

Why do players hate Mud?

Today, Mud is treated with respect rather than hated, but reading reviews from the year of Gothic release is an interesting experience. It's funny to hear the comments about how initially players were excited to get a sidekick that will help them in further adventures, offer an extra hand in combat sequences, and here... disappointment. Mud quickly shown his true face. He annoyed players by talking, not listening, loitering, disturbing, etc., etc.

At the height of the game's popularity, multi-page threads were created on forums under the title: "How did you get rid of Mud?" Fans of Gothic described there their methods of taking care of a troublesome companion or how long they managed to keep up with him. Hats off to the developers at Piranha Bytes, who created a computer game character that provokes players to "throw their PC out the window" (yes, that's one of the opinions expressed about their time with Mud).
