21. Dungeon Siege II. 25 best hack'n'slash hames of all time (2023)
Table of Contents
Naturally, the list couldn’t miss a representative (or even representatives - spoiler!) of arguably the second most famous series in the history of hack'n'slash. After the excellent first instalment, the expectations for Dungeon Siege II (released in 2005) were extremely high, especially since Gas Powered Games boosted them with bombastic promises. As is often the case, reality didn't fully match the promises - especially the ambitious dialogues, which were supposed to be full of choices and interjections from our companions endowed with unique personalities.
Well, too big for hack'n'slash britches. Besides, this isn't what bloodthirsty players expect from a game of this genre - and since slashing and chopping has been done perfectly, Dungeon Siege II can be hosted in our ranking with its head held high. Much of the credit for this goes to extend character development system, the magical atmosphere of the land of Aranna, and a polished interface with an interestingly designed journal. Thus, the path to defeat the evil Valdis is hours of fun - especially in co-op with other players.
