25 Best Hack'n'slash Games - Devilishly Good List!

We're back with another TOP 25 list. This time of the best hack and slash titles. 2023 brought fresh air to the genre, so let's dive right in!

Table of Contents

12. Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr

The owners of the rights to the Warhammer universe grant licenses to anyone willing, and as a result we are drowning in a flood of mediocre warhammer games. That's why you should approach the game Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr with caution. On one hand, it was developed by a well-known studio, Neocore Games, which has already produced some impressive hack'n'slash series like The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing .

On the other hand, the early access to Martyr didn't bode well. The beginning of the game was weak and incredibly repetitive, but over time the game took on a truly imperial shape. The game debuted in Early Access in August 2017, and the full version was made available in June 2018. Initially, this production had much room for improvement, but its development continues. The last patch was released at the beginning of February 2023. In the meantime, the developers added plenty of additional paid and free content. At the end of 2022, versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S also appeared.

Here we embody the titular inquisitor, whom the Emperor sends with a mission to cleanse the imperial Caligari Sector of heresy. That's basically the whole plot summary, although occasional events introduce new threads into the story, which provides an interesting addition.

In terms of mechanics, we have everything you would expect from a decent hack'n'slash. Hordes of enemies, loot to collect and even more enemies. We conduct extermination using a range of guns and a diverse tree of special skills. We have access not only to active abilities but also to a considerable number of passive effects. The icing on the cake is the Clans and Warzone modes, which are events prepared for the community. Participating in them, we feel as if we were really involved in the conflict with the forces of Chaos. A unique feature, unusual for the genre, is also the ability to hide behind covers, which opponents can also do.
