22. Book of Demons

Now a real gem, a game by the Polish Thing Trunk studio. Book of Demons is the first game in the Return 2 Games series, which is a tribute to the best productions of the last decade of the last century. This unconventional project delivered something original. A combination of hack'n'slash with a card game!

Entering the game, we land in a book where the conflict between the forces of good and evil is currently ongoing. We, as the protagonist, must go to the deepest level of the dungeon and defeat the archdemon residing there. His minions will interfere with us, so we have to fight our way through hordes of opponents. We fight using cards that fulfill the function of our skills.

Before venturing forth, we must not gather a party, but the appropriate deck that will allow us to win. This is the most important aspect of the game - acquiring and then picking card-abilities so that no demon is a problem for us. Apart from this, we deal with the exchange of inventory, whereby the choice of character class is important. After all, the class determines our equipment.

Book of Demons is a delightful hack'n'slash parody that turns out to be extremely playable. It is worth giving it a chance mainly because of its unusual layout - as I mentioned at the beginning, the game world is a book, so everything is stylized as a paper cut-out.
