The next edition
Final Fantasy VII has a plot twisted like a piggy's tail and you can actually get lost in it pretty easily. Crisis Core should be considered a part preceding the events from the original. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is, at the same time, a refreshed version of the 2008 game, which in terms of changes follows in the footsteps of Final Fantasy VII Remake, but retains most of its character. This time, the protagonist will be Zack, Cloud's friend from the main series.
It's not a sequel, it's a prequel
Zack's adventures complement the story and add a few new threads to it. As part of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, we will meet some new characters, but most of the story bridges the gaps between Final Fantasy VII Remake. Interestingly, the combat system has been refreshed, but it hasn't undergone radical changes, as was the case in the aforementioned title. Still, it's an action RPG with an arcade skirmish system.
