The Best Mods to Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord (2023 Update)

Mount and Blade wouldn't be such a popular game if it wasn't for the modding scene. Bannerlord goes the same direction, and you can already find some interesting modifications online. Here's an overview of these, plus a sneak-peak of the upcoming ones.

Bannerlord Online – play with friends

What's more fun than playing Bannerlord? It's simple – playing Bannerlord with friends. And we don't mean inviting people to watch you play. We're talking about playing online.

If you want to see other players in Calradia right now, and you don't mind MMO gameplay (hundreds or even thousands of people playing at the same time!), check out Bannerlord Online project. It's in early access and still suffers from a number of technical problems – nevertheless, you can have some fun. Fixes and new elements are introduced often, constantly improving the experience. You can't complain about boredom.

Bannerlord Online is largely the Mount & Blade we know, except that real players run around the world map in addition to computer-controlled units. The fact that you're not playing alone, however, introduces several important aspects. Once a battle starts, other people can join it in real time. This makes the skirmishes more difficult. However, there are also a few facilitations. In one of the earlier versions of the modification (we're not sure how it is now) food-supply management was not included – starvation was turned off.

The network module obviously creates opportunities to compete with other players. For example, you can raid caravans or fight in the arena in 1v1 or team vs team modes. It seems, however, that most people prefer cooperation, for example when preparing fields for cultivation together – you have to start somewhere, and the beginnings are not easy. For this type of activity, you receive pay that can be spent, for example, on your warriors. They don't use their sword for free, oh no.

Although the mod is still not finished, the authors have already offered a subscription on Patreon. Spending real money there allows you to claim unique items every month that you can't get any other way. There are three plans available that differ in price, number of items and bonuses. The price of the most expensive can knock you off your feet, reaching $45/mo. For a one-time payment of $100, you can also receive the title of Monarch, which is associated with many benefits. A cash grab? Well, yes and no. Let's remember that you need to maintain servers that work surprisingly well.
