The Best Mods to Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord (2023 Update)

Mount and Blade wouldn't be such a popular game if it wasn't for the modding scene. Bannerlord goes the same direction, and you can already find some interesting modifications online. Here's an overview of these, plus a sneak-peak of the upcoming ones.

Table of Contents

Mount and Blade 2 Bannerlord – total conversion mods

To explain what total conversion mods are about, it's worth examining the case of the recent installments of the Assassin's Creed series, namely Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla. There were loud voices stating that the productions are very similar to each other, and even that they're mere reskins, i.e. Egypt from Origins was simply replaced with Greece in Odyssey and Norway in Valhalla. Thus, according to some, only the reality and the world have changed, and the core of the gameplay and mechanics have remained the exact same. So, maliciously, you could consider these three games "total conversions." The original quasi-middle-ages in Bannerlord can be replaced with more (Westeros from Game of Thrones) or less (Star Wars) similar universes.

Full conversion mods are by far the most labor-intensive projects. This is why many mods are abandoned in time – ambitions easily exceed capabilities. In a more optimistic scenario, total conversion mods stay alive for many years and get regularly enriched with new elements. The disadvantage of these mods is often that they are only compatible with older versions of the game. If the authors were to adapt such a large modification to subsequent updates, some of which can be huge, they would often have to start a large part of the work from scratch.

The Long Night – Game of Thrones Total Conversion

Winter is coming. In fact, it has already arrived, because Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord has lived to see a total conversion, moving players to the realities of the incredibly popular Game of Thrones universe. The mod The Long Night – Game of Thrones Total Conversion – White Walkers (couldn't be shorter?) throws us into the middle of the conflict between the North and the Lannisters. If you are a fan of the universe, you will feel right at home as soon as you start playing. The map has been completely rebuilt, so you will see the headquarters of the most important factions, as well as the Wall and other characteristic locations.

Other changes occur on the battlefield. Forget the classic units from Bannerlord. You will command soldiers of Kingdom of the North or the Rock, there are also terrifying creatures from beyond the Wall. Moreover, even dragons and giants appear! Another novelty are spells – a properly used wall of fire can give you a huge advantage. In short, only the foundations of the original game are left.

Version 4.5 of the mod, the latter, works with the game ver. 1.5.7.
