Things to Look Forward to at PAX East 2020

Despite the outbreak of the coronavirus hindering some studios' plans regarding their visit to Boston on Feb 27, PAX East 2020 still holds quite a few interesting attractions and events, including world premieres of some highly anticipated games.

The first gameplay from Baldur's Gate III!

When developers from Larian Studios, the creators of the magnificent Divinity: Original Sin series, announced last June they were working on the third part of the legendary Baldur's Gate saga, fans of cRPG held their breath. Unfortunately, we haven't learned much about the game since then, and emotions have naturally dimmed a little. However, it seems that PAX East 2020 will finally bring details about this highly anticipated production.

This is indicated by the tweet published on the game's official account in mid-January. It indicated the date of February 27 – which is not coincidental – and reported that "something is brewing." We already know what it is. The authors of Divinity 2: Original Sin will finally show the world how the third installment of Baldur's Gate is going to look like. The presentation should be led by Swen Vike, CEO of Larian Studios. A visit to the PAX East 2020 exhibition may be an opportunity to see this material as one of the first people in the world.

SuperBoss by Team Coco

PAX East 2020 is not only about games, but also different kinds of attractions. A great example is SuperBoss – that is, a performance of comedians from Team Coco intertwined with the world of interactive entertainment. The program is described by the creators as "an interactive comedy and an epic battle combined in a video game." The show will be hosted by Aaron Bleyert, known for his popular show, Clueless Gamer.

FreePlay booths

PAX East 2020 is also a great opportunity to explore various productions for free and independently test platforms that you haven't had the opportunity to. The organizers have prepared several dedicated FreePlay zones, where participants can access a range of devices. We're talking about both consoles and PCs (in the PC Area), as well as the latest generation of VR goggles that will take you to a completely different world. If you're currently in doubt about buying any new equipment or games, then attending the event can make it easier for you to make the right decision.

It's also worth noting that the hall will also have space for a zone dedicated to fans of various types of party and table-top games. On PAX East, it will be possible to rent out one of the hundreds of these games and then test them, both in the company of old friends and new acquaintances.

Tournaments and trivia

The undoubted attraction of the event is the huge Omegathon tournament, which will host games on different platforms and in dozens of different titles. That's not all, as there will also be plenty of other competitions at PAX Arena that will feature top, pro players from all over the world.

Apart from fighting in virtual worlds, the organizers also prepare a number of additional sites and other curiosities, such as field games, in which you can win many interesting prizes. The speedruns by members of Games Done Quick also look interesting. You will certainly be astounded to see just how short video games are for them.

Let's go to PAX East

This is just a fraction of all the stuff that will take place during Pax East. Over the course of four days, you will see many discussion panels, interviews with gamedev luminaries, interesting meetings, contests, game shows (from big hits to small indie games), and just meet a lot of people who, like you, are crazy about games, pop culture, comics and movies. These events, focused on communicating with fans and consumers of culture, are red-letter days in any player's calendar. Remember them!
