An open world economic strategy game set in a fantasy universe. It was developed by the independent studio, Robotronic Games. The game is deprived of any storyline which could be highlighted - the player is taken to a randomly generated open world, leading a group of gnomes. Having limited supplies, the creatures wish to settle down and establish a kingdom in these unknown areas. The gameplay consists mainly of acquisition of resources, which can be used to construct different buildings or create various, useful items. It is very important for the players to watch out for their subordinates, providing everything to satisfy their basic needs. The players not only have to give them food and water, but also weapons, tools, beds, and shelter. As an open world game, Gnomoria allows the player to influence the in-game environment to a large degree. The game features old-school two-dimensional visuals, presented in isometric view.

While in Africa, the hero receives a confidential order from the HQ which marks the beginning of another great adventure. The gameplay resembles classic adventure games. While playing, we explore various locations, have conversations, look for necessary items, and solve puzzles. The game also features arcade interludes such as pursuits or stealth sequences. In contrast to the original, all characters and locations are fully three-dimensional, while the point ‘n’ click interface was replaced with direct control over the protagonist.

Apart from that, the expansion brings a new race - The Vah Shir; a new character class was also included, called the Beastlord. Shadows of Luclin utilizes the same technology the core game is powered by, though numerous changes, improvements and effects were introduced.
