A Short Hike is an adventure game developed by independent developer Adam Robinson-Yu. The game was created as a break from work on another project, an RPG title, and the source of inspiration for it were his walking expeditions from his youth.
A Short Hike takes place in a landscape park located at the foot of a mountain called Hawk Peak. The main heroine of the game, a bird named Claire, who is here on holiday with her aunt, decides to climb the top of the game to contact her mother. As the road is not the easiest one, the protagonist will have a variety of adventures on her way.
The action in A Short Hike is shown in isometric view. The mainstay of the game is wandering through the picturesque park and gradual ascent to an ever-increasing height. In addition to walking, running and climbing rock walls, Claire can also glide, which often allows her to reach inaccessible places.
On the trail, our protege meet other tourists, with whom they can talk. In addition, some of them have various tasks for her. They are important because for completing them the bird is often rewarded with feathers increasing her endurance (the bigger it is, the higher the heroine can venture) and useful items and gadgets.
What's more, there is nothing to stop us from leaving our main goal aside from time to time, for example, to go fishing in the river (presented in the form of a simple mini-game) or to search for treasures and various secrets. The title was designe in such a way that even when slowly exploring and looking into every corner it was possible to finish it in one afternoon.
A Short Hike features pleasant colorful pixel-art graphics. The game is accompanied by relaxing music by Mark Sparling.
