Akaneiro: Demon Hunters is an action-RPG game and a very original interpretation of the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale. The title has been developed by the Chinese studio – Spicy Horse, led by A. J. McGee, the team has previously created such titles as Alice: Madness Returns.

The action of game is set in XIXth century Japan, and we play the role of the tale’s young heroine. In Akaneiro: Demon Hunters the Red Riding Hood is a demon hunter, belonging to the Akane order, who one day is sent to a village on the Hokkaido island. The location has been overrun by monsters, known as Yokai, and the local settlers do not have the knowledge or the skill to deal with this threat.

The title is an arcade, action RPG, similar to the games of the Diablo series. Most of the fun in Akaneiro comes from slaughtering hordes of monsters; for completing quests and killing demons we are rewarded with experience, which we can later use to upgrade the statistics and abilities of our hero. The developers have prepared various kinds of equipment, which also allow us to use different fighting styles, as the mobility of our character is influenced by the type of armor she is currently using. The game features a free-to-play model with optional microtransactions; however, the authors have made sure that their title is not too obnoxious when it comes to coaxing the players into spending real money.
