A TPP adventure arcade game developed by creators such as Bennett Foddy and Gabe Cuzzillo. Baby Steps has us playing as the clumsy Nate, transported to a mysterious mountainous realm where he may possibly find the meaning of life... once he learns how to take baby steps forward.
Baby Steps is a creative cross of an arcade and adventure game. It was created by three developers: Gabe Cuzzillo (responsible for the warmly received Ape Out), Bennett Foddy (responsible for the equally creative Getting over it with Bennett Foddy) and Maxi Boch.
The main protagonist of Baby Steps is Nate. Unemployed and living with his wealthy parents, he lives a boring life seemingly doomed to never achieving anything other than watching TV and eating junk food in his pajamas. One day, however, he's transported to a strange, foggy mountainous land. Willingly or not, Nate must start moving forward... which turns out to be more challenging than it may seem.
Although the story touches on such topics as wasting one's life and trying to give it meaning, it also features plenty of humor.
Baby Steps is a third-person game (TPP). The game is set in many diverse, atmospheric locations, such as barren mountain peaks, dark forests and ravines.
Before we can start traversing them freely, we must first learn how to control the main character. Nate walks clumsily and has trouble maintaining balance, making movement very challenging. Things don't get easier once we learn how to move, as Nate must get past narrow passages and slippery, muddy slopes, where he can easily fall or hurt himself.
Baby Steps features decent visuals. The atmospheric locations and Nate's clumsy animations are all rather appealing.

The humorous physics game from Bennett Foddy, Baby Steps, is getting out of the way of Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Devolver is not shy about sharing that.

Game Ratings for Baby Steps Video Game.
Push Square: 8 / 10 by Stephen Tailby
Baby Steps is more than it first appears, offering up a heartfelt story about a man grappling with his insecurities as he's forced to keep going. The intentionally tricky walking and climbing is a lot of fun to grapple with, and there's plenty of silly stuff to discover in the open world setting. Your mileage may vary due to various factors, not least the amount of punishment you'll take as you scramble up the mountain, but it's a journey worth taking for those willing to persist.
So Many Games: 3.5 / 5 by Jason Baigent
There’s much reward to be had for successfully navigating the game's many obstacles, but it’ll take a strong level of patience and determination to complete them, especially with the unconventional controls. There’s plenty to love with Baby Steps, but the potential for much frustration by the controls and hazards made it all one step too far for me.
Shacknews: 7 / 10 by Lucas White
What we have at the end of the day is a strange, silly game that is a little too sure of itself to stick its landing effectively. It stretches itself too thin to be consistently funny and its story is clumsily told despite its put-on air of poignance. It has its moments though, and for as grumpy as I was by the end I still look back at its early hours with some fondness. Watching a dumpy nerd slide down a muddy hill is pretty funny the first few times; it just doesn’t stay funny as long as Baby Steps wants it to.
