A TPP adventure arcade game developed by creators such as Bennett Foddy and Gabe Cuzzillo. Baby Steps has us playing as the clumsy Nate, transported to a mysterious mountainous realm where he may possibly find the meaning of life... once he learns how to take baby steps forward.
Baby Steps is a creative cross of an arcade and adventure game. It was created by three developers: Gabe Cuzzillo (responsible for the warmly received Ape Out), Bennett Foddy (responsible for the equally creative Getting over it with Bennett Foddy) and Maxi Boch.
The main protagonist of Baby Steps is Nate. Unemployed and living with his wealthy parents, he lives a boring life seemingly doomed to never achieving anything other than watching TV and eating junk food in his pajamas. One day, however, he's transported to a strange, foggy mountainous land. Willingly or not, Nate must start moving forward... which turns out to be more challenging than it may seem.
Although the story touches on such topics as wasting one's life and trying to give it meaning, it also features plenty of humor.
Baby Steps is a third-person game (TPP). The game is set in many diverse, atmospheric locations, such as barren mountain peaks, dark forests and ravines.
Before we can start traversing them freely, we must first learn how to control the main character. Nate walks clumsily and has trouble maintaining balance, making movement very challenging. Things don't get easier once we learn how to move, as Nate must get past narrow passages and slippery, muddy slopes, where he can easily fall or hurt himself.
Baby Steps features decent visuals. The atmospheric locations and Nate's clumsy animations are all rather appealing.

The humorous physics game from Bennett Foddy, Baby Steps, is getting out of the way of Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Devolver is not shy about sharing that.

Game Ratings for Baby Steps Video Game.
COGconnected: 80 / 100 by James Paley
Baby Steps has a simple premise, but a lot of depth. You’re pushed to be patient and persistent by the mechanics. In fact, the whole game is built around punishing you for being foolish or hasty. Every character is begging you to relax, take in the scenery, and have a good time. If you listen, you just might enjoy yourself. But make no mistake, this game can be crazy frustrating. Tiny mistakes can lead to gigantic consequences, after all. If you’re patient enough to master the deranged control scheme, you’ll be shocked by what you can accomplish in Baby Steps.
Gaming Boulevard: 8.5 / 10
Baby Steps made me feel like a clumsy, awkward human being, and that is the biggest compliment I can give it. Despite the lacklustre writing, the gameplay more than makes up for it. Using a simple gameplay mechanic in varied environments allowed me to shape my own experience in a fun way while keeping me on my toes throughout. If you're interested in Baby Steps but don't want to experience the challenge first-hand, I'd recommend looking for someone streaming the game. Either way, I have no doubt you will have fun.
VDGMS: 8 / 10 by Darren Andrew
Baby Steps is like Cilantro. You will ether love it or you’ll hate it because it tastes like soap, which in this case will be the taste of rage and frustration. There are no upgrades, no lives, no game over screen, no skill tree, no map, no waypoints. There is nothing but you, the mountain and physics. As much as Baby Steps is about your dexterity with the controller, it’s twice as much about how well you can deal with adversity and show resiliency to keep going. The gameplay isn’t likely to surprise and will absolutely please those who are specifically coming for it, but the story of Baby Steps stole the show with an unexpectedly poignant journey about the human condition. If there was ever a quintessential rage platformer, Baby Steps would be it.
