Back to Bed Description
Back to Bed is a puzzle game by Bedtime Digital Games studio. It is a commercial continuation of a free student production from 2011.
Plot
The action of the game takes place in the surreal worlds of dreams. A man named Bob, who suffered from narcolepsy, travels inertly through them. For this reason, he falls asleep every now and then, as a sleepwalker, he remains unaware of the dangers lurking on him every step of the way. We play the part of his subconscious responsible for his self-preservation instinct, which took the form of a guardian called Subob.
Mechanics
Our task is to direct Subob in such a way as to bring Bob safely to the end point in the form of a bed on each board. We have no direct influence on the movements of the man we protect. Instead, we must manipulate the environment and thus indirectly influence the movement of the unfortunate sleepwalker. For example, when encountering any obstacle, Bob always turns 90 degrees clockwise. This allows us to shape the route of his march by moving objects.
The fun is enriched by the fact that the action takes place in a world of dreams, where traditional rules of physics do not apply. This results in levels full of deadly traps, gravitational-changing stairs and structures that could not exist in reality. In addition, each map is in the form of footbridges suspended in the air and one false step can lead Bob to fall into an abyss.
Technical aspects
The first version of Back to Bed was created as a student project in 2011. The commercial continuation offers additional eighteen levels and twelve levels known from the free prototype have been thoroughly reworked. In addition, half of the maps are embedded in the new underwater world. The authors have also improved the audiovisual setting and expanded the game with new mechanisms changing the gameplay.
