A tactical RPG, set during World War II. In Broken Lines we take control over a unit of soldiers trapped behind enemy lines, and during the game we conduct turn-based clashes with opponents and make decisions that affect the course of the plot.
Broken Lines is a tactical RPG, set during World War II. The game was developed by the independent Danish studio PortaPlay.
Broken Lines takes us to Eastern Europe, which was engulfed in the war in 1944, where an airplane with eight soldiers crashed behind an enemy line. Without contact with the command and detailed information about the place where they found themselves, the protagonists are forced to fight for survival, which requires their close cooperation. Because of the differences between them, the latter can be a serious problem for them.
The plot presented in the game has a non-linear structure, and what path it will follow and how it will end depends on the decisions made during the course of the game.
In Broken Lines the action is shown in an isometric view. The driving force behind the game is the task that we undertake. When selecting them, we must remember that our orders are reflected in the morale of our subordinates. If the decisions made by us do not suit the taste of a soldier (as we will learn from the conversations conducted by the members of the unit), his attitude will become weaker and weaker, which in turn may push him to desertion.
We are disturbed by our enemies in our mission. Clashes take place in turn-based mode, with the possibility of planning the movements of all soldiers at the same time and their simultaneous performance. The key to success is, first of all, to develop effective tactics and use the opportunities offered by the environment; soldiers can hide behind the shields (remember that some of them get damaged over time) or use camouflage. In addition, their individual combat skills play an important role - while Elliot prefers to act quietly, Raymond prefers to charge his enemies with a battle-cry on his lips, Andrew makes excellent use of heavy weaponry, Rosie does a great job of barrage fire, and Brenda provides her allies with medical help.
Broken Lines features decent visuals and the player can freely rotate the camera for a better view of the battlefield situation. The game is accompanied by an atmospheric soundtrack.

Broken Lines is a game that frustrating misses nearly every shot it tried to make. While there are aspects of fun to found, they are unfortunately buried in trenches of tedium and disappointment.
