C.A.R.D.S. RPG: The Misty Battlefield

C.A.R.D.S. RPG: The Misty Battlefield is a cross between a card game and a jRPG. It was developed by Acquire, known for such games as Labyrinth of Zangetsu, Adventure Academia: The Fractured Continent and Octopath Traveler II.

Plot

C.A.R.D.S. RPG: The Misty Battlefield is set in a fantasy universe. The game revolves around the Hundred Years' War, a giant conflict between 17 kingdoms. The scales were tipped when a dragon appeared - a chimera, created by combining a flying reptile and a brave human. The kingdom of Fahftania in control of the dragon does not intend to stop there, joining forces with the powerful Hellmuth organization, creating more chimeras to take over the entire realm.

The game's protagonist is Seth Arden, a scout of the Clausewitz battalion, who discovers Fahftania's plans and sets off on a long, dangerous journey. He must foil the enemies' plans and end their barbaric experiments before they conquer the entire world.

Mechanics

C.A.R.D.S. RPG: The Misty Battlefield makes use of the top-down perspective. Controlling Seth and his party, the player traverses a vast, misty map, gradually uncovering the world's secrets, finding useful items and locatign enemies. As we progress through the game and through the main questline, we meet many memorable characters, both enemies and potential allies.

Combat plays a major part in the game. Battles are turn-based, taking place on special arenas, the camera showing them from the side. Before starting the battle, we can position our units, while during combat proper we play cards corresponding to attacks, abilities and moves. Aside from regular enemies, we'll also face powerful bosses. All foes have unique strengths and weaknesses, which we must discover and exploit to succeed.

As we progress through the game, we expand our deck with new cards and upgrade them. We also gather increasingly powerful equipment. All this lets us proceed deeper into the territory of Fahftania and the Hellmuth brigade.
