Press Attack: 6.5 / 10 by Bruno de Souza Bom

Company of Heroes 3: Final Stand offers a different approach within the franchise and successfully adapts some of the series' strongest elements into a survival-focused experience. Building an effective defense, choosing technologies, and constantly reacting to enemy attacks creates intense moments, especially when stronger enemies appear and every decision starts to matter. However, the biggest issue lies in its limited scope. Final Stand is a much smaller experience than a full Company of Heroes game, functioning almost like a separate mode that is restricted by the amount of available content. Despite having a strong strategic foundation, the lack of variety and some systems that encourage replaying the same battles repeatedly make the sense of discovery disappear faster than it should. The randomness of technologies can also create unfair situations, while the lack of saving options and some camera issues show that there was still room for more improvements. It is an experience with good ideas that can provide enjoyable matches, especially for players who like testing different strategies or playing cooperatively, but it leaves the impression that Final Stand could have gone much further. With more maps, a greater variety of events, deeper progression, and additional quality-of-life improvements, it could have become a much more memorable addition to the franchise.

AltChar: 7 / 10 by Semir Omerovic

At roughly $20 for people who already own the base game, that's a fair price for something that'll keep you engaged for several playthroughs, shortcomings and all. At full price, it's a tougher sell.

NoobFeed: 68 / 100 by Tahmid Mahi

Company of Heroes 3: Final Stand still manages to deliver the tense defensive battles that the series is known for. Every run is a different battlefield story, from desperately fixing damaged outposts to surviving overwhelming armor to holding the line with perfectly timed support abilities.

The main pros of the game

  • Gameplay Mechanics: The core gameplay is generally enjoyable, with many players appreciating the wave-defense mechanics and the roguelite elements that add replayability.
  • Cooperative Play: The game offers a cooperative experience, which many players find fun, especially when playing with friends.
  • Unique Faction Abilities: Each faction has its own unique tech tree and perks, which can create varied gameplay experiences.
  • Fun for Casual Players: It is seen as a good option for players looking for a more casual, less competitive experience compared to traditional PvP modes.

The main cons of the game

  • High Price Point: Many users feel that the game is overpriced for the amount of content provided, with suggestions that it should be priced much lower (around $5-$15).
  • Limited Content: The game features only five maps and a single game mode, leading to repetitive gameplay after a short time.
  • Lack of Matchmaking: Initially, there was no matchmaking for cooperative play, which frustrated players who wanted to play with random partners. While a hotfix added a lobby system, many still found the matchmaking inadequate.
  • Technical Issues: The game has been criticized for bugs, lack of polish, and issues with achievements not unlocking properly.
  • Reused Assets: Many players noted that the game seems to reuse assets from the base game, making it feel less like a standalone product and more like a DLC.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Four-Player Co-op: Players expressed disappointment that the game only supports two-player co-op, especially given that previous games in the series allowed for larger teams.
  • More Maps and Content: There is a strong desire among users for additional maps and game modes, as well as support for user-generated content through Steam Workshop.
  • AI Teammates: Many users wanted the option to include AI teammates in solo play, which would enhance the cooperative experience.
  • Improved Perk System: Users suggested that the perk system feels shallow and could benefit from more diverse and impactful upgrades.
  • Better Balancing and AI: Players hoped for improvements in enemy AI behavior and overall game balance to enhance the challenge and enjoyment of gameplay.

Summary

  • In summary, while "Company of Heroes 3: Final Stand" has some enjoyable elements and potential, it faces significant criticism regarding its pricing, content limitations, and lack of essential features that many players expect from a standalone title.
