A tactical game with an isometric view and roguelike elements. Death Ring: Second Impact allows us to take control over a squad of mechs. We go against hordes of mutants, using a diverse arsenal on the battlefield and relying on our tactical skills to end up victorious.
Controlling a squad of mechs is a gratifying theme for a tactical game, as best evidenced by the Front Mission series. Over the years, various developers have grappled with this topic. This also includes the Rouge Mecha studio, which is behind the project Death Ring: Second Impact.
In Death Ring: Second Impact we watch the action in an isometric view. The game was divided into missions set in various sceneries - from wastelands to devastated cities. The pillar of the gameplay here are turn-based skirmishes, in which we lead our mechs.
The game allows us to equip huge walking machines with new hardware from various manufacturers, providing our mechs with the ability to fight in close combat or at a distance.
The system implemented here allows for combining items and unlocking special abilities. For example, a heavy sword combined with a compatible drive activates the powerful ability "Two-handed Sword Strike", while other combinations allow for long-range sniper fire or heavy machine gun fire. There are special modules on the forearm of our mech, providing it with extra bonuses.
As for the enemies we have to face, we may encounter oversized, acidic lizards, explosive frogs, or the spiky creature "Shiver Princer" on our way. We must demonstrate tactical sense on the battlefield, skillfully positioning our subordinates, as well as performing flanking maneuvers or attacking from the flank.
Death Ring: Second Impact takes us to a science fiction universe, which is threatened by hordes of mutated creatures. During the game, we take on the role of a commander of a squadron of mechs called Gryphons. Our task is to deal with the threat, as well as to uncover the secrets hidden behind the titular Death Ring. Over time, we also learn more about our pilots.
