Deer & Boy is a 2.5D platform game with adventure game elements. We play as a little boy who travels around the world in the company of a charming deer. The game focuses on the story and solving puzzles.
Deer & Boy is an arcade game with platform game mechanics and adventure game elements. It was developed by French Lifeline Entertainment. Most of the work was done by the artist Jayson Houdet, who previously worked on Overwatch.
Player takes on the role of a boy who runs away from home after a traumatic experience. During the journey he meets and tames a deer. This unusual pair will experience numerous adventures together and will face many dangers. At the same time all these experiences will strengthen the boy, allowing him to heal the wounds in his soul and gain strength before entering adulthood.
Deer & Boy is a 2.5D platform game. Graphics is in 3D, but the game takes place in two dimensions. During the gameplay, the player moves to the right side of the screen, avoiding dangers and collecting items. The game has strong adventure elements. Overcoming many of the obstacles and challenges requires cleverness rather than dexterity, forcing us to solve logic puzzles.
At first, we have to deal with each challenge alone, and the deer is just a helpless companion. With time, however, the animal begins to grow and becomes not only a valuable helper, useful in many puzzles, but also a protector of the boy.
Deer & Boy offers a single player mode only.
The strong point of the game is the artwork. Deer & Boy makes a big impression with beautifully designed characters and locations and smooth animation.

Despite issues like an unnecessary maze and out-of-place sci-fi premise, Deer & Boy is an adorable narrative adventure that I would recommend. Some of the puzzles are a bit confusing due to a lack of visual cues, but the puzzle gameplay is rewarding for the most part.
