An adventure detective game that takes place in the universe known from the Pokemon series. Detective Pikachu is a unique adventure detective game that takes place in the world from the popular Pokemon series. The game was developed by the Japanese studio Creatures. The studio was founded in 1995 and it’s directly related to Pokemon Company that controls Pokemon franchise. Detective Pikachu originally debuted in 2016 under the title Great Detective Pikachu: The Birth of a New Duo. It was available only in Japanese e-Shop. The western edition of the game features new riddles and scenarios. It is worth mentioning that there is a life-action movie based on the game in works.
The main protagonist in Detective Pikachu is Tim Goodman, a young boy who comes to Ryme City in search of his missing father. There he encounters a weird Pikachu that can speak, likes coffee and proudly wears a Sherlock-Holmes hat. The creature explains to Tim that he is a renowned detective and that he previously cooperated with boy’s missing father. Together they decide to join their forces and find Tim’s father. Before they get on the trail, they must first solve many mysterious Pokemon-related crimes in Ryme City. The story is presented in a humoristic way – it lacks violence and is targeted at youngest players.
In Detective Pikachu the players are tasked with solving cases received for progressing in story campaign and finding the culprits of crimes. The players control Tim and freely move through the streets of Ryme City, talk to witnesses, look for tracks and evidence left by criminals. Pikachu is helping the players. Depending on the selected difficulty level, the creature provides only simple advice or directly helps in finding the evidence.
Detective Pikachu features a colorful and comic-book-like three-dimensional graphics. Some of the dialogues were fully dubbed. The title features many cutscenes that can be watched from the main menu. Access to them is obtained by activating a special amiibo figurine that was released at the same time as this game.

Game Ratings for Detective Pikachu Video Game.
ZTGD: 6 / 10 by Anthony Mann
Ultimately, I like the concept of Detective Pikachu and will likely see the movie when it releases, but hopefully the developers choose to challenge their audience a bit more with any potential sequel.
Shacknews: 8 / 10 by Brittany Vincent
Detective Pikachu has been a solid hit through and through. From Pikachu's weirdly appropriate voice to the fun cases involving both Pokémon and humans to the interesting detective cases to solve, I had a blast getting to the end of the game.
Nintendo Life: 8 / 10 by Ryan Craddock
Detective Pikachu might be described as a spin-off, but the visual and narrative direction the game has taken is an incredibly welcome one that we would love to see again. The gameplay can be a little too easy and repetitive at times, and we were surprised to see the ending appear so abruptly, but everything is presented within a very solid package that will have kids and adults alike hooked. Dedicated fans of the series will likely get the most out of the experience, with the game's art, storytelling, and genuinely likeable cast showing the world of Pokémon in a great new light, but we'd urge anyone interested to give this one a go. Our adventure only just ended but we're missing our Pika-pal already.
