4X space strategy games have accustomed us to gameplay that mostly unfolds in a turn-based mode. Dynasty Protocol described here changes that and allows us to conquer space in real-time. This production was developed by the independent team Ellipses Studios, which has Chaos in its portfolio - a 2024 project of a different genre and theme.

Gameplay

In Dynasty Protocol we take control of a space dynasty, and our primary task is to conquer successive areas of the universe. To achieve this goal, we must establish colonies and create mining outposts on resource-rich asteroids. Ensuring a steady supply of oxygen and hydrogen to our footholds plays a crucial role, as does maintaining an efficient network that enables communication and resource transport between them.

Fleet, warfare and their effects

We gather resources that allow us to build a genuine space fleet (the game lets us design ships by manually selecting individual parts) and then send it to conquer new territories. As we progress, the rank of our ships increases (which translates to better armor), and their weaponry can be upgraded. All of this leads to a gradual increase in the value of individual units.

We can establish colonies on the conquered territories, each of which can specialize in extracting specific resources. Additionally, each colony provides us with access to a unique superweapon, the proper use of which can change the outcome of battles.

Developing a space empire

Besides ships, we engage in building stations with configurable modules, communication arrays, or complexes that enable the production and refinement of dark matter (which allows for "space jumps," meaning the rapid traversal of large distances by our ships).

Furthermore, we create research facilities that provide us with the opportunity for technological development. Thanks to them, over time, we can reduce resource consumption, increase the offensive and defensive potential of our fleet, or upgrade colony management systems.
