The main pros of the game

  • Enhanced Gameplay: Many users appreciate the introduction of megastructures, which add depth and strategy to mid and late-game content.
  • Unique Mechanics: The addition of new resources (gigamass and energy) and the quest line for constructing megastructures provide a satisfying progression experience.
  • Strategic Depth: The finite nature of gigamass adds a layer of strategy, requiring players to plan their resource management and construction carefully.
  • Visual Improvements: The DLC includes a free update that enhances the game's visuals and user interface, making the galaxy map more appealing.
  • Content Richness: Some players consider this DLC to be one of the best for the Galactic Civilizations series, offering substantial content for fans.

The main cons of the game

  • Resource Scarcity: A significant number of users criticize the limited availability of gigamass, which restricts the ability to build multiple megastructures and leads to frustration.
  • AI Limitations: Many reviews mention that the AI does not utilize gigamass effectively, focusing instead on less impactful upgrades, which diminishes the competitive aspect of the game.
  • Gameplay Imbalance: Some players feel that the finite nature of gigamass and its use in ship components create an imbalance, as it can be wasted on easily destroyed ships.
  • Logical Inconsistencies: Critiques highlight that the mechanics surrounding gigamass and megastructures lack coherence from a scientific perspective, leading to a sense of disbelief.
  • Mixed Reception of Structures: While some megastructures are praised for their power, others, like the Dyson Sphere, are seen as less effective compared to simpler alternatives.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Resource Generation: Users express a desire for more ways to generate gigamass, such as from regular planets, asteroids, or through advanced technologies.
  • AI Improvement: There is a call for better AI management of resources, particularly in how it builds and utilizes gigamass.
  • Removal of Gigamass Ship Components: Many players believe gigamass should only be used for megastructures and buildings, not for ship upgrades, to prevent resource wastage.
  • Expanded Gameplay Options: Suggestions include allowing players to trade gigamass or implement infinite sources of gigamass from certain celestial bodies to enhance gameplay.
  • Reworking of Existing Mechanics: Several reviews suggest that the current implementation of gigamass and its associated mechanics need significant reworking to improve gameplay balance and enjoyment.
