A TPP action adventure from Mike Laidlaw - person behind the Dragon Age series. Eternal Strands offers mechanics inspired by The Legend of Zelda and Shadows of the Colossus games, including having magical powers relying on physics and being able to climb huge enemies.
Eternal Strands is an action adventure game inspired by titles such as Shadow of the Colossus, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and the Monster Hunter series. The game is the debut project of the independent studio Yellow Brick Games, led by Mike Laidlaw - an industry veteran, including the main designer of games Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II, as well as the creative director of Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Eternal Strands takes us to a fantasy land. The main character of the game is Brynn, the fearless Weaver capable of controlling the elements, whose goal is to regain the cultural homeland of her people. To achieve this, the protagonist embarks on a journey, during which she will have to face countless dangers.
In Eternal Strands we watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). The adventure leads us through various locations - from beautiful but also wild wilderness, through dark dungeons, ending in the capital of Dynevron. While traversing them, we get to know their inhabitants, carry out various quests, and above all - face opponents.
Both gigantic beasts and powerful mechanical constructs stand in our way. Enemies are also differentiated in terms of behavior and the locations of their weak points. During dynamic battles, Brynn makes use of melee weapons and abilities provided to her by a magical cloak, which allows her to control ice and fire, as well as use telekinesis.
The heroine can, among other things, melt ice-covered enemies, freeze and immobilize foes, or even throw objects at her targets. We can also combine individual attacks. For example, Brynn can first tear off a branch, then set it on fire, and finally throw it at the adversary. In addition, Brynn can climb huge opponents - mainly to get to weak spots on their bodies.
The heroine's skills are also extremely useful during exploration. The protagonist can climb any surface, create ice bridges, or burn down barriers standing in her way. As we progress, we expand our range of abilities and gain access to increasingly powerful attacks. In addition to this, our combat potential is increased by ever-improving armor and weapons.
Eternal Strands uses a physics engine that controls the behavior of the elements we control (for example, fire can spread and cause major fires), as well as the damage done to the surroundings as a result of our actions.

Game Ratings for Eternal Strands Video Game.
GamesRadar+: 3 / 5 by Abbie Stone
There's potential in the premise, and some real highs (especially when launched into the air), but it's the kind of game that makes you yearn to see what a sequel could accomplish by iterating on what worked – perhaps then we'll be in for something truly magic.

The best thing I can say about Eternal Strands is that the game has its moments of epicness when you finally take down a boss battle. However, actually accomplishing that feat just feels too much like an annoying chore, especially when you have to wrestle and grapple with the janky and clunky mechanics of the game.

I have waxes poetic about Eternal Strands for quite a while here and I am not going to lie, friends, gamers; we are starting 2025 off with a banger. Yes, I do not like the stamina system but when players are riding a dragon, chopping at its wing in hopes of making it land with that stellar soundtrack pumping; I mean it’s just a great time. I forget all about the floaty feeling movement, the stupid stamina system and any other gripes, because fighting those giant monsters and exploring this destroyed civilization is just that much fun. If you are remotely a fan of Dragon Age, Monster Hunter, Zelda, the Colossus games then I think you too will find some fun in Eternal Strands.
