The action of Overcooked takes place in an alternative, comedic reality; specifically in the realm known as The Onion Kingdom, which is on the verge of doom in the face of an incoming ancient evil. Luckily, as it turns out, the vile threat can be simply eaten; to cook it, however, the best chefs are needed, so players assume their roles.

As Perseus, you face the Titans of rap, pop, and rock music, who divert people's attention from the favorite genre of the Black Zeus, the Lord of Funk. Like in other endless runner games, you can't control the direction the protagonist is heading to or his speed — you can only react to obstacles by jumping or eliminating them.

The game offers a rather comical twist on the concepts created by the Loner from Providence. The players assume the role of a young witch, who gets admitted to the titular university of Miskatonic. She wants to use the knowledge gained over the course of her studies to summon one of the Outer Gods, Shub-Niggurath.
