The gameplay in Hyper Light Drifter is based mainly on exploration and dynamic combat, featuring many tactical options.
Hyper Light Drifter for PC, PS4 and etc. is an action RPG game which takes inspirations from the tradition of similiar 8- and 16-bit console titles. It was created by Heart Machine studios.
Action takes place in a fantasy world with some science-fiction elements. It creates an interesting combination, with knights and castles on one side and robots and other modern devices on the other (they are relics left by an advanced ancient civilization). You become one of the Drifters – adventurers traversing the world in search for pieces of the forgotten technology. The character is terminally ill but there is still one hope for him; he must embark on a journey to a dangerous land where usually even Drifters don’t dare to venture to.
Just like in most action RPGs, fighting is the core element of the game. In PC, PS4 and etc. version developers created a dynamic combat system, with many tactical options for player and smart AI for enemies. Your primary weapon is an energy sword but you can also use pistols and rifles. All weapons are charged with batteries (except of the sword) and can be upgraded. The character is accompanied by a flying probe which generates shields to defend him, gives light in dark corridors, helps finding hidden passages and allows to manage the inventory. The probe can be upgraded as well, by installing additional modules.
All these gadgets give you a lot of freedom in combat. For instance, more advanced players can activate shields just in time to deflect missiles to enemies. Moreover, during adventures the character is finding devices which enhance his physical abilities; they allow him to perform quick dodges and long jumps or to smash through some objects.

Game Ratings for Hyper Light Drifter Video Game.
IGN: 7.6 / 10 by Brandin Tyrrel
Hyper Light Drifter is a gorgeous, trendy hunk of stylish old-school sensibilities mated with the iconic hues of pixelated indie charm. It's a return to simpler control schemes, building on sound mechanical fundamentals rather than trying to wow with new ways of interaction within each and every checkpoint. Though its wordless storytelling took some of the thrill out of completing the campaign, Hyper Light Drifter is a joy to play, (and replay in the new game plus mode) its mechanical excellence and stylish veneer.
PC Gamer: 78 / 100 by Andy Kelly
Stylish, beautiful, and uncompromising, Hyper Light Drifter is as rewarding as it is frustrating.
Hardcore Gamer: 4.5 / 5 by Matt Whittaker
Sure, The Division is a great game that has hooked millions into its addictive gameplay loop and Far Cry Primal did breathe a bit of fresh air into a stale formula, but 2016 has been off to a strong start as the clear result of its outstanding independent titles.
