Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is the third installment of the musou-type slasher sub-series. They are all spin-offs of the highly popular The Legend of Zelda series. The game, set before the events from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, was developed by the Koei Tecmo-owned AAA Games Studio, in collaboration with Nintendo.

Gameplay

In Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment the action is viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP). The gameplay does not deviate too much from what the previous part of the series and other games of this type have accustomed us to. We mainly engage in dynamic battles with opponents, during which we face dozens of enemies at the same time. The locations we visit are also a home to powerful bosses that we have to face.

Metro GameCentral: 4 / 10

Insanely repetitive, horribly shallow, and pointlessly easy – this is the absolute least interesting thing to do with Zelda on the Switch 2 and bad even by the low standards of the Dynasty Warrior franchise.

But if you're a Zelda fan looking for a fix until the next mainline entry comes along, Age of Imprisonment is a worthy adventure worth undertaking.

Output Lag: 9 / 10 by Steven Mills

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is the most polished entry in the spinoff series, delivering canonical Zelda storytelling that actually enhances Tears of the Kingdom rather than undermining it. The combat feels genuinely tactical thanks to Zonai devices, elemental reactions, and interactive Sync Strikes that demand more than button-mashing. It’s the rare spinoff that makes its source material better just by existing, and that’s worth celebrating even when you’re mashing buttons as you capture your tenth outpost of the day.
