Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is the third installment of the musou-type slasher sub-series. They are all spin-offs of the highly popular The Legend of Zelda series. The game, set before the events from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, was developed by the Koei Tecmo-owned AAA Games Studio, in collaboration with Nintendo.

Gameplay

In Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment the action is viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP). The gameplay does not deviate too much from what the previous part of the series and other games of this type have accustomed us to. We mainly engage in dynamic battles with opponents, during which we face dozens of enemies at the same time. The locations we visit are also a home to powerful bosses that we have to face.

Wccftech: 8 / 10

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment does a lot to address the story and technical shortcomings that held back its predecessors while making some modest yet welcome tweaks to the series’ combat. Age of Imprisonment remains relatively shallow compared to core Zelda games, but that’s largely inherent to the Musou genre, and those happy to bliss out while bashing Bokoblins will find a well-told tale worth tussling with long term.

Zelda's adventure in the ancient past of Hyrule sticks the landing to be the best Hyrule Warriors yet.

TheSixthAxis: 8 / 10 by Dominic Leighton

This is a playful and enjoyable piece of Legend of Zelda lore, and one that will be essential for fans of the series, but it doesn't break the same ground as Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, or even Age of Calamity.
