Inked: A Tale of Love

A platform/logic game developed by Somnium Games. The player assumes control of a nameless ronin who embarks on a quest to find Aiko, his missing love interest. The title sports characteristic graphics that are reminiscent of ink-on-paper drawings.
Inked is a platform game developed by Somnium Games, and released by Starbreeze, a studio known from numerous titles, including Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons or Syndicate.
The player assumes control of a ronin drawn by Adam – a comic book author. One day, the author decides to move Aiko, the love of his life, away from him, forcing the ronin to embark on a rescue mission. It quickly turns out that the story is much deeper than it seems.
In Inked, the player is tasked with progressing through levels drawn by Adam which contain puzzles of varying difficulty levels. Some of them require using a switch that will extend a bridge. In other cases, one may need to use the power hidden in the hero’s sword to move objects such as drawbridges or boxes in order to unlock passageways that lead us forward.
Inked has been in development for over two years. During that time, the developers managed to create varied puzzles as well as unique graphics based on geometrical shapes that are similar to drawings drawn using a pen. Moreover, each map has one dominating color, such as white, green, or red. The end result makes the game unique and extraordinary.

The slight issues may seem like a deal breaker for some, but truth be told, the good outweighs the bad by a mile. The story and the art style will keep gamers going despite some puzzles appearing to be unsolvable. It just takes a bit more patience to get the most out of this game. All the puzzles in the game are solved by a combination of the shapes. There are no exceptions. As a gamer, sometimes it is better to take a step back and consider the options instead of giving up trying to force a solution that might work. And because of this, I can safely recommend this game to people who enjoy a good story, solving puzzles, and to those who are into precision platforming.

While it can be a downgrade and mimicry of the original 2018 release, Inked: A Tale of Love is a pleasant experience due to its superb artistry and laid-back puzzling. It may only be a few hours long, but it does not outstay its welcome, letting you finish mostly satisfied.
