Legends of Aria PC

Legends of Aria is the first game developed by Citadel Studios. Among the developers, there are people who previously worked on Ultima Online. The title is a MMORPG with a very open structure. During the game, the players are visiting numerous “worlds” that differ not only in their look, but their history as well.

Plot

The beauty of the planet of Aria, filled with green forests, blue oceans, and people living peaceful and wealthy lives, is a thing of the past. Due to a collision with a giant comet (the event was later named the Great Fall), the planet was completely devastated. The cataclysm also released magic and since then, the survivors are able to use it.

Pieces of the old world are floating in the space, providing a haven for the survivors and holding the pieces of its old splendor. One of such pieces is Celador – a place that remembers the former glory of Aria and a place of the cult of Tethys, the Goddess of Water. This world faces a plague of undead. Coliseum, the headquarters of the God of Earth, is the destination of tourists who look for hedonistic plays and battles on arenas. During the game, the players will also visit the Babel Tower – a monument for the Zephyr, God of Air. There, human sacrifices are being made. There is an Asylum as well – a place inhabited by the greatest madness and by the eldest gods, consumed by madness.

In Legends of Aria, the players assume the role of one of the inhabitants of such worlds. Before starting the game, the players decide about the gender and the look of their character. The fame, specializations, and type of received tasks will depend on the choices made by the users. The story is presented in conversations with non-playable characters, in pieces of documents, and in books.

Mechanics

Legends of Aria is an MMORPG game. The players can act alone or in a larger group and explore the pieces of Aria, complete main and side quests, and develop their character. The game features varied, conflicting factions. Joining one group provides access to unique missions. Depending on selected character specialization, the players can control a strong warrior who uses melee weapons or a combat mage that uses powerful spells. It is also possible to focus on healing other party members. The gameplay is focused on combat – the players will face both other players and opponents controlled by artificial intelligence. Among the opponents, there are various classic fantasy monsters like giant insects, the undead, and demons. Frequently, the players also face bosses that require proper strategy to defeat. The action is presented from an isometric perspective. This enables the players to observe the battle precisely and to select tactics properly.

As the players progress through the game, the characters gain experience points that enable them to improve the statistics of their characters, to learn new skills and spells. The game lacks character classes – only skills are improved with new skills. It is worth mentioning that there is a limit of skills a character can learn. Because of that, if the players want to change the specialization of a character, they must “deactivate” less needed skills. The equipment impacts the strength of the character as well – new clothes and weapons can be looted from enemies. Other items and potions can be crafted and modified by using obtained resources.

Each player can build his or her home (first, they must obtain the required materials) that will serve the purpose of a base. It is also possible to join forces as a guild and to wage wars against other guilds.

What distinguishes Legends of Aria from other MMORPGs is the fact that the players can create their own game servers, moderate them, and create the rules on them. The host can decide how the character development will go, what items the players will find, how the battles will be fought, how the artificial intelligence-controlled monsters will behave. The tools enable the administrators to change the topography of the terrain, add buildings or forests. The game also features standard game servers in a few versions, for example: balanced, PvP, with permanent death etc.

Game modes

In Legends of Aria, the players can play in PvE and PvP modes. The latter is available in each corner of the damaged world, except for the zones that are watched by guards. The result of dying depends on the rules on a specific server – it is even possible to lose all obtained equipment.

Technical aspects

The characters and environment are three-dimensional and the action is observed from an isometric perspective. The game features colorful graphics – this is especially seen while using spells. Legends of Aria features an original soundtrack that references classic fantasy motives. The game is based on a network of servers – although the players can create their own servers, the main server in the headquarters of the development studio is managing the whole structure of the game.
